Project summary:

My interest in abstract art began in the 1960's when I was a student at the Hull College of Art & Craft.

I was influenced by the work of two tutors, Lawrie Leeson and Victor Newsome. Leeson worked in large impasto fields of colour and Newsome was very constuctivist in his approach.

I further developed my interest at Goldsmith's College. I learned how to transform an image, building on previous work to allow the growth of a personal visual language. I became interested in the work of Carl Jung and his notions on the collective unconscious along and with the automatic writing of the surrealists.

Colour has been an abiding interest and a visit to an exhibition of the work of Josef Albers was a revelation, colour seemed to come alive. The work that I produced through the AA2A scheme was part of this process.
